I saw a photo of my daughter recently. She was wearing a sweatshirt and necklace that I bought her as a gift for her birthday. I was very excited to see this, because I haven’t had a relationship with my daughter, or my son, since early 2008. I thought, “she can’t be that mad at me if she’s wearing the gifts I sent her.”

My excitement was squashed when a friend of mine asked if I thought she knew the gifts were from me. This thought hadn't occurred to me. I thought “no, my ex wouldn’t do that”, but then again, I never thought she’d make good on her promise that if anything ever happened to our marriage I would never see my children again. I stayed in a loveless marriage just to be with my kids. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel disappointed and manipulated.

So, I’ve started this blog in hopes that my children will see it and know how much I love and miss them ~ always have and always will. I will never ever give up on them, and my heart and my door will always be open and waiting, no questions asked. And speaking of questions, maybe reading this will cause them to question some of the things they have heard, or not heard, or been led to believe. They are smart kids, I'm sure they will be able to see through the fog surrounding them eventually.

Memorial Day 2012

Hope my kids had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend filled with fun with their friends and family.

It was the perfect weekend for hitting the beach or a classmate's pool, or a family BBQ. I haven't seen a Memorial Day weekend so perfect in a long time, sure hope they enjoyed it outdoors. Last week I got to see their cousin from Canada play in a huge volleyball tournament nearby. Thought my kids might like to see pictures of their family they are missing. Everyone is growing up so fast. I remember when they were all small and playing in the creek at Grandma's house in Ohio or Grandpa's pool or Grandpa's cabin in Naples.

And now it's back to the regular school schedule, at least for a few weeks. Exams start this week for my daughter, and in a few weeks for my son. Wishing them both the best of luck with their tests. Get lots of rest, study hard and eat a good breakfast. These exams are so important for my daughter. She's going to be a junior in high school next year. These grades will determine what college choices she will have ahead of her. She's such a smart girl, I know she'll do her very best, score well and set herself up for a bright future. Good luck, I'm looking forward to your report cards!

Happy Mother's Day

Wishing all the Moms out there a very special Mother's Day. I'm so grateful for all the Moms in my life ~ my Mom, my Step-Mom, my Sister who is a fantastic Mom to my nieces, my Grandma (who is still with us), my Grandmothers who can no longer share the day with us, all my fantastic Aunts, my wonderful friends who are Moms, and especially the Mother of my children ~ without her I wouldn't be a Dad to two beautiful children ~ thank you. Enjoy your day ladies!

For my kids ~ all the Moms on this side of your family send their love and good wishes, and can't wait to see you again soon!
